The Ugly History of Illegal Weapon Sales from Americans to Mexicans
Would you be surprised to learn that American weapons merchants have been illegally selling firearms to Mexicans for more than 100 years?
Would you be surprised that during all those years to the present, the American government has vowed to stop the illicit trade but has never done so?
During the Mexican Revolution of 1910, more than one million people died, many killed while fighting. The majority of weapons, including machine guns, were sold by Americans. Then, as of now, those sales are illegal. Washington did not halt the deadly trade.
Today, an estimated 70 percent of firearms and other weapons Mexican drug mafias use originate in the United States. In Mexico, the sale of firearms is tightly restricted. There are just two gun shops in the country.
The American government has repeatedly and recently said that illegal sales would be put to an end.
Rather than scold Mexico for not curbing narco violence, the Trump administration could do what’s been long promised.
