Public discussions about the border fail to put in an international context. Pointy headed intellectuals should know better. Our border phenomenon is not unique, maybe not even an anomaly.
In 2023, there were about 43.4 million refugees worldwide. This number is steadily increasing, according to the UN.
The most frequent point of origin for migrants is India, with about 18 million people. Mexico follows with 11.2 million people.
Other significant countries of origin are China, Russia, and Syria.
As for the most frequent destination countries, the United States remains the top destination, with nearly 51 million foreign-born residents. Germany is the second most. favored, followed by Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the UK.
